  1. That’s why some of us get the big bucks :) )

It’s very dependent on who your bought the domain name from. Some places have some sort of Web interface so you can change it there and some places require you do it yourself you have to change your A(address) record on your domain to point to the correct IP address.

So I suggest you call the registration guy back with the IP address you want it changed to and ask him
How do I get the A record on my domain reset to this address…
You may want him to also set MX (Email) records up for you so any email to the domain goes to the place of your choosing. MX records will need a SMTP server that services your domain.

Most places want to host your domain for you. If you have a site that already hosts your domain you might talk to them about the issue as well, maybe they can help you. It’s usually best to buy your domain from the people that are hosting unless you want to become an expert. Of course if your doing your own hosting that’s not an option, in which case you need to make sure you have a couple of SMTP servers setup for email and a DNS server setup for your domain addresses.
None of this is hard to do, just somewhat painful to get through. Make a lot of notes, you’ll need them some day when you want to change something. This will happen about 10 minutes after you forget how.
    Good Luck
