the most recent story i’ve read where a company paid big bucks for a domain name is years ago when a financial institution bought the domain “loan.com” from a person who had this domain registered under his name..
make sure the name that you choose is catchy that will easily attract the attention of potential buyers/domain owners.
too bad though, i think domain names with 5 letters or less have been reserved or acquired already.
likewise, almost all big businesses have their own domain names already.
my suggestion is too look for names that may be used for promotions by big companies similar to this: freetravel.com. or cheaprates.com.
